March 10th (10.30) there is a day conference for anyone working across the UK in the area of Christian heritage/history – a practical day looking at issues like reaching schools, working with your council, organising special events, promoting public interest etc. This is a great opportunity to talk to and learn from others who are active in this area of growing interest. This is free, with a contribution to the cost of lunch. If you would like to come please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or ring/text 07470-366689.
And on March 11th (09.45) there is the second annual event on the theme of religious tolerance and liberty; this will be addressed by Prof John Coffey, Andrew Haigh of the International Christian Consulate and others, and also look at tolerance in the world today. Prof Coffey, a well known historian of Christian history, will talk about the development of ideas of religious tolerance and liberty. This theme is important to the North Notts/Lincs area as many early exponents of tolerance were from this region – including John Smyth, Thomas Helwys and John Murton, whose ideas then influenced Roger Williams and the development of America. You do not need to book for this event.
Both events are at The Well, Hospital Rd, Retford. There is good parking available and Retford has a good train service on the East Coast main line and also from Sheffield. The venue (a new Baptist church) is abut a 15 minute walk from the station, with taxis available.
Please note also that the Pilgrims & Prophets group arranges and leads guided tours around the various sites connected with the Pilgrims, the Baptists and the Wesleys. The contact details are the same as above.”
